RAD140, or Testolone, has attracted significant research attention for two reasons that don't always get discussed together: it's among the most potent AR binders in the SARM class, and it appears to have activity in neural tissue that's separate from its anabolic effects. That combination makes it useful for studying androgen receptor biology beyond muscle physiology.
In terms of binding affinity, RAD140 competes favorably with testosterone at the androgen receptor -- some assays show it matching or exceeding testosterone's affinity while maintaining tissue selectivity that distinguishes SARMs from classical androgens. The selective part is what differentiates it from testosterone, which activates AR broadly across tissues including the prostate.
The neuroprotective angle comes from the fact that androgen receptors are expressed in neurons, and AR activation in neural tissue produces effects distinct from hormonal signaling elsewhere. Some studies have looked at RAD140's effects on amyloid-beta toxicity and neurotrophic signaling, finding evidence of protective activity in cell and rodent models. This research is earlier-stage than the anabolic side but has expanded the compound's relevance beyond sports science contexts.
RAD140 appears in research on anabolic/catabolic balance, muscle and bone tissue biology, androgen receptor pharmacology, and neuroprotection. The divergence between neural and peripheral AR effects is itself a research question -- understanding how the same receptor produces different downstream outcomes in different tissue types.

RAD140 has one of the highest binding affinities for the androgen receptor among research SARMs -- in some assays, comparable to testosterone itself. It maintains tissue selectivity (preferential activity in muscle and bone versus prostate tissue in animal models), which is the defining characteristic of the SARM class. This combination makes it valuable for studying high-affinity AR agonism with tissue-selective effects.
Androgen receptors are present in neurons, and RAD140 has been studied for potential neuroprotective effects in cell and animal models -- particularly around amyloid-beta toxicity and neurotrophic factor signaling. This research is distinct from anabolic effects in muscle tissue and suggests the compound may be useful for investigating AR biology in the nervous system, which is an active area of inquiry.
Tissue selectivity in SARMs comes from how different tissues express coactivator and corepressor proteins that shape downstream effects of AR activation. RAD140 appears to produce more pronounced activity in muscle and bone relative to prostate in rodent models -- a pattern different from testosterone, which activates AR broadly. This selectivity is a central feature being studied in SARM pharmacology research.
RAD140 is supplied for laboratory research use only. Not approved for human use. Handle in compliance with institutional biosafety guidelines.
