About Semax
About Semax
Semax (CAS: 80714-61-0) is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from the ACTH(4-7) fragment (Met-Glu-His-Phe) with an appended Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide sequence to enhance metabolic stability. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Semax retains the neurotrophic properties of the parent ACTH fragment while resisting rapid enzymatic degradation.
Mechanism of Action
Semax influences multiple neurotransmitter systems and neurotrophic pathways. It has been shown to upregulate brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) expression in experimental models. The peptide modulates dopaminergic, serotonergic, and cholinergic neurotransmission. Research also indicates effects on gene expression patterns related to neuronal survival and plasticity, involving activation of signaling cascades including the MAPK/ERK pathway.
