About Selank
Selank (CAS: 129954-34-3) is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the naturally occurring immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin (threonyl-lysyl-prolyl-arginine). Developed by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Selank incorporates a stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro sequence attached to tuftsin, enhancing its metabolic stability and biological activity in experimental settings.
Mechanism of Action
Selank modulates the expression and metabolism of endogenous enkephalins and their associated enzymes. Research indicates it influences the balance between enkephalin-degrading carboxypeptidase activity and enkephalin-synthesizing enzyme activity. This peptide has been shown to affect GABAergic neurotransmission and monoamine systems, including serotonin and dopamine pathways. Its tuftsin backbone also provides immunomodulatory properties through interaction with phagocytic cells and cytokine regulation.
