What Is PT-141?
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a melanocortin receptor agonist derived from Melanotan 2. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors that work on vascular smooth muscle, PT-141 acts centrally through the MC4R receptor in the hypothalamus — making it the only melanocortin-based compound FDA-approved (as Vyleesi®) for research into sexual dysfunction pathways. It works through the nervous system rather than the vascular system.
