SLU-PP-332 is a small molecule ERRalpha/ERRgamma agonist developed at Saint Louis University as a pharmacological tool for the estrogen-related receptor (ERR) pathway. ERRalpha and ERRgamma are orphan nuclear receptors -- so called because they lack identified endogenous ligands -- that regulate mitochondrial biogenesis, oxidative phosphorylation, and fatty acid metabolism. Before SLU-PP-332, selective ERR agonists were limited, which constrained the ability to study ERR pharmacology without genetic manipulation.
This product is supplied as pre-dosed oral capsules. SLU-PP-332's small molecule structure (MW 490.6 Da) gives it oral bioavailability, distinguishing it from peptide exercise mimetics that require injection, and the capsule format provides standardized units for chronic oral-administration protocols in research models without weighing powder for each unit.
The exercise mimetic framing comes from what ERR activation is studied to do in research models: it is associated with many of the same transcriptional programs as endurance exercise -- PGC-1alpha-dependent mitochondrial biogenesis, increased expression of oxidative enzymes, and fiber type shifts toward slow-twitch oxidative phenotypes. This pathway is one of several investigated for exercise mimetic pharmacology alongside AMPK activators (like AICAR) and Rev-Erbalpha agonists (like SR9009).
