Testagen is a bioregulatory peptide from the Khavinson series targeting testicular tissue — specifically Leydig cell biology, testosterone biosynthesis, and seminiferous tubule function. The male reproductive counterpart to Ovagen in the framework. Leydig cells produce testosterone through a regulated steroidogenic cascade: the rate-limiting steps — StAR protein expression, CYP11A1 (cholesterol side-chain cleavage), CYP17A1 — are governed by tissue-specific transcription factors that change with age. Age-related testosterone decline involves both reduced Leydig cell number and altered gene expression in the remaining cells.
Two things make Testagen research distinct from HPG-axis approaches. HPG-axis interventions — kisspeptin analogs, enclomiphene, hCG — stimulate testosterone by signaling through the hormonal cascade from hypothalamus to pituitary to testes. Testagen is proposed to act directly at the testicular tissue level, modulating gene expression in Leydig cells independently of gonadotropin signaling. Whether that produces meaningful downstream testosterone output changes in aging models is the empirical question the Khavinson group has published on.
