Pancragen is a tetrapeptide (Lys-Glu-Asp-Pro) from the Khavinson series targeting pancreatic tissue — specifically islet cell biology and exocrine pancreas function. It shares its sequence with Livagen (Lys-Glu-Asp-Pro), which targets the liver. That shared sequence with different tissue targets is one of the more interesting aspects of the Khavinson framework: the hypothesis is that tissue specificity emerges from distribution following administration, not from the peptide sequence alone. The same sequence reaching pancreatic cells is proposed to interact with different available promoter sites than the same sequence reaching hepatocytes.
The pancreas is an interesting bioregulation research context for researchers in the metabolic space. Beta cell function and islet biology are central to diabetes and glucose homeostasis, and the transcriptional programs governing insulin secretion capacity change significantly with aging and metabolic stress. The Khavinson group has published on pancreatic bioregulators examining gene expression in pancreatic acinar cells and islets, with attention to age-related changes in insulin secretion capacity and exocrine function.
For researchers working in the GLP-1 and incretin space: Pancragen represents a mechanistically different approach to pancreatic biology — tissue-level gene expression modulation rather than receptor agonism. Whether the two approaches produce complementary or independent effects in the same model is an open research question.

Pancragen's proposed mechanism is upstream of receptor signaling — it targets the transcriptional programs in pancreatic islet cells that govern how well beta cells function and respond to glucose. Rather than stimulating insulin secretion acutely (as GLP-1 agonists do), it's studied for effects on the gene expression patterns that determine beta cell capacity over time. This is complementary to, not competitive with, incretin pharmacology research.
Published Khavinson research on pancreatic bioregulators examines gene expression in pancreatic acinar cells and islets, islet morphology in aging models, insulin secretion capacity changes, and exocrine enzyme production. Most data originates from the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology.
