These 10ml storage vials are the standard container for reconstituted peptides in laboratory settings. The screw-cap amber glass design addresses two practical problems: benzyl alcohol from bacteriostatic water interacts poorly with some plastic types over time, and UV light degrades many peptides in solution within hours of exposure. Amber glass eliminates the light issue entirely and is inert to the solvents typically used in peptide reconstitution.
The 10ml volume is the practical sweet spot for research use. Smaller vials (2ml) fill up with dead space from syringe dead volume when you are drawing multiple doses. Larger vials (20ml+) mean a single vial holds your entire peptide inventory, so a contamination or breakage event is catastrophic. At 10ml, one vial holds 10-20 doses at typical research concentrations while remaining economical to stock multiples of.
The silicone septum caps (if equipped) allow repeated needle puncture without coring -- rubber-stoppered vials deteriorate over time and introduce particulates into solution, which matters for any experiment where you need to rule out contamination artifacts. The labeling area is matte-finished to accept permanent marker -- always label with compound name, concentration, date of reconstitution, and lot number immediately after filling.

Store empty vials at room temperature in a dry, clean location. Once filled, refrigerate at 4°C or freeze at -20°C depending on the compound stability requirements. Swab the septum with 70% isopropyl alcohol before each needle insertion. Do not store peptide solutions in non-amber glass or plastic if benzyl alcohol is present -- migration and sorption to container walls can reduce effective concentration over weeks.
Many peptides contain amino acids (tryptophan, tyrosine, phenylalanine, methionine, cysteine) that are photo-oxidized by UV light in the 250-400nm range. Disulfide bond-containing peptides are particularly vulnerable. Clear glass transmits UV freely; amber glass absorbs it. In a well-lit laboratory or under standard fluorescent/LED lighting, peptides in clear glass can degrade meaningfully within hours. Amber glass extends shelf life and removes a variable from your experiment -- if your activity assay shows unexpected loss of potency, you can rule out photodegradation as a cause.
Wipe the septum with a fresh 70% isopropanol swab before each puncture and allow it to dry for 30 seconds before inserting the needle. Use a new syringe for each draw -- do not re-use syringes between vials or between animals. Avoid touching the septum with ungloved hands. If you see any cloudiness, particulates, or color change in the solution, discard the vial -- bacterial contamination typically produces turbidity before more obvious signs appear. Bacteriostatic water extends the window, but it does not sterilize a vial that has already been compromised.
