What Is GLP-1?
GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) is a 30-amino-acid incretin hormone secreted by intestinal L-cells in response to food intake. It is the endogenous ligand for the GLP-1 receptor — the same target of blockbuster drugs like semaglutide and liraglutide. Native GLP-1 has a very short half-life (~2 minutes) due to rapid DPP-4 enzyme degradation.
